The business papers of the Salem, Mass., brothers, Elijah and Jacob Sanderson, known cabinetmakers, include extensive shipping invoices listing where they shipped their furniture for sale; numerous bills and receipts for wood, supplies, cabinet hardware and services contracted relating to furniture making and the furniture industry and trade, including wages for indentured servants; promissory notes; and ship's papers for ships owned in part by the Sandersons who were shipping both furniture and non-furniture cargoes from Salem. The legal papers include contracts, an indenture, deeds, bonds, pew deeds, and insurance policies. The bulk of the legal papers deal with a court case between Elijah Sanderson and Caleb Burbank vs. John Waters. The family papers include many personal bills of Jacob Sanderson; account books containing the administration of Jacob's estate and inventories of his estate; personal bills and receipts of Jacob's wife, Catherine Sanderson, her estate papers, probate papers, and detailed inventories of her estate; and a detailed account by Elijah Sanderson of his brief detainment by the British at the time of the capture of Paul Revere in 1775.
